Setting up a POP3 account in Outlook 2007 on Windows XP

To set up a POP3 account in Outlook 2007 on Windows XP:

Open Outlook 2007. Click on Tools to get a menu then select Account Settings to display the Account Settings dialog:

Click on the New button to display the Choose E-mail Service dialog:

Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP. Click on the Next button to display the Auto Account Setup dialog.

Fill in the fields using this information:In the Your Name field, enter your business name.In the E-mail Address field, enter your BT Business email address e.g. username@yourbusinessname, where yourbusinessname is the domain name hosted by BT Business or a third party domain name registered with BT Business for mail relay.In the Password and Retype Password fields, enter the password for the mailbox.Then check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types box. The fields that you have just completed are greyed out:

Click on the Next button to display the Choose E-mail Service dialog from which you select Internet E-mail. Click on the Next button.

In the Internet E-mail Settings dialog:In the Your Name field, enter your business name.In the E-mail Address field, enter your email address.Ensure that the Account Type is POP3.
In the Incoming mail server field, do one of the following:

If you are setting up an @mydomain.com, @activewebdezign.co.uk or BT hosted domain email address, for example, @yourcompanyname.com, enter pop3.activewebdezign.co.uk.

If you are setting up an email address for a domain name which is not hosted by BT, then please contact your hosting provider to find out what to enter in this field.

In the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter smtp.activewebdezign.co.uk (regardless of which type of email address you are setting up).
In the User Name field, do one of the following:

If you are setting up an @mydomain.com or @activewebdezign.co.uk email address, enter the first part of your email address, for example, username@activewebdezign.co.uk.

If you are setting up an email address from a domain which is hosted by BT, enter the first part of your email address, for example, username@yourcompany.com.

If you are setting up an email address from a domain which is hosted by a third party, that is, if you entered anything other than pop3.activewebdezign.co.uk in the Incoming mail server field, please contact your hosting provider to find out what to enter in this field.

In the Password field, enter the password for the mailbox.

Click on the More settings button to display the Internet E-mail Settings dialog. Click on the Outgoing Server tab and check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.

Now do one of the following:

If you are setting up an @mydomain.com, @activewebdezign.co.uk or BT hosted domain email address, select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

If you are setting up an email address using a domain name hosted by a third party, select Log on using and enter the BT email username (the first part of your btconnect email address e.g username@activewebdezign.co.uk) from the btconnect email account with which you have set up mail relay, and the associated password.

Note: To enter your password, check the Remember Password box. Once you have entered your password, you can then uncheck this box if you wish.Finally click on the OK button.

Click on the Next button to display the Congratulations dialog and Click on the Finish button.

You have successfully set up Outlook 2007 to send and receive email.
